What’s included? x2 sheets to practise writing words using Phase 2 phonics knowledge. Both sheets are portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? These ‘Phase 2’ phonics ‘writing words’ sheets have been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds or ideal for assessment purposes at the end of Phase 2. This resource is also ideal for pupils with additional learning needs. How to use it There are two levels of worksheet to complete, both include an icon at the lower right side indicating this level. Both sheets include colours which link to the order that the sounds are taught. From top downwards - red sounds are introduced first (so should be most familiar), orange sounds are next, followed by yellow then green sounds which are the last of the Phase 2 phonics sounds. The less challenging sheet focuses on CVC words and includes ‘sound dots’ under the lines (to write on) indicating how many sounds are in each word. This sheet also has one CCVC and one CVCVC word at the end (green). This sheet displays the icon with the green figure (lower right side). The more challenging sheet focuses on words with generally more sounds or using those sounds which can be trickier to remember. This sheet displays the icon with the red figure (lower right side). There is a simple instruction at the top (for learners) and a clear space at the base of each sheet for learners to write their name and a space for the number date (top, right). What’s included? This download includes four A4, pdf sheets (portrait) to practise handwriting x5 lowercase letter sounds (graphemes) - ar, or, ur, ow, oi. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dots on top of each letter provide guidance of where exactly to write. Set 8 ar or ur ow oi There are seven previous sets in the same design for all of the letters in Phase 2/3. Like those sets this set (8) includes four designs, each numbered and each slightly differently according to the design and level that best suits your learner/s. The numbers 1 - 4 (at the top of each sheet) and the cover image left to right shows the levels in order of easiest (1 - most support, less challenge) to hardest (4 - least support, more challenge). The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 100. Each set of letters has been included on a line - to model how letters should look when positioned correctly on a line. There is a clear space at the top of each sheet for learners to write their name. Page 1 Learners have one set (row) of each sound to write - using the starting dot and dotted lines (on top of each pale grey letter shape) as a guide. Page 2 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes the same (grey) letter shapes for learners to trace over without a starting dot and without the dotted line guides. What’s included? x20 landscape orientation pdf sheets for all Phase 2 phonics sounds. There are x4 sets, each with x3 sheets with x6/x5 cards to cut out plus an answer sheet for every set. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children, pupils in Year 1 who are just learning these sounds for the first time or who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? An adult cuts along the dotted lines and places the set of x6 word cards on a table top. Learners look at the image on the left, then sound it out and write this word on the lines (on the right). A visual answer sheet is included which learners can use themselves to encourage autonomy. Resource Details… This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set has been designed practise sounding out and writing simple words using only sounds in Phase 2. The idea is to introduce the sets in order as the new sounds are introduced to learners. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the next six sounds in Phase 2 - m d g o c k. Learners match pictures and sounds (as puzzles) to complete images and make a simple words to read. Learners can then use these completed puzzles to fill out missing words in sentences (either separate sentences or all sentences on one sheet) to complete, then read whole (simple) sentences. All words on the ‘picture puzzles’ only use the sounds ‘m d g o c k’. Phase 2, set 1 (sounds s a t p i n) is also available (in same design) in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? Picture/word puzzles Pages 1 and 2 An adult cuts out the x10 puzzle shapes following dotted lines. The segments of all x10 ‘picture/word puzzles’ can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to match. Once the segments of each picture/word puzzle are completed each of the x9 words can be read. The completed ‘picture puzzles’ can be used as a reference to complete the missing words for x10 sentences (pages 3-5). Writing words/reading sentences Pages 3-6 There are two versions of the same x10 sentences to complete, each has a missing word with a clear space for each of the missing letters (graphemes) to be written. A larger format version of the sentences set out individually (pages 3 and 4) which can be cut up (perhaps laminated) and written on (if laminated - with a dry wipe/wipe clean pen). The smaller scale version (page 5) has the same x10 sentences but all on one page for learners to complete with a pencil, as a ‘worksheet’.
